Pastor Johnson caught up with him,
While he was walking down the street,
And he tapped him on the shoulder,
“You’re just the man I hoped to meet.”

“When you came to church on Christmas,
I saw how much you loved to sing.
So I would like to sign you up
To join the service of the King.”

But the man assured the preacher
That he was not some raw recruit,
He was in the Father’s army
And was an officer to boot.

“But you so seldom come to church,
Except on special holidays.
We could certainly use your voice
For singing songs of godly praise.”

“If you’re really in God’s army,
Then you must always let it show.
Come to church this coming Sunday
So everybody there will know.”

He whispered, “I shouldn’t tell you,
‘Cause it makes some people nervous.
I’m not supposed to come to church
‘Cause I’m in God’s Secret Service.”
