Baby Jesus

Somebody stole Baby Jesus
From the manger scene on the lawn.
The preacher, when he came to church,
Was first to find the baby gone.

He said, with anger in his voice,
That the baby had been taken
And that his faith in human kind
Was beginning to be shaken.

Right after church, still breathing flames
Like a legendary dragon,
He met Tommy on the sidewalk
Playing with a new red wagon.

Tommy was so very happy,
It thawed the preacher’s angry heart.
But what he saw in the wagon
Gave the young preacher quite a start.

“It was you stole Baby Jesus,
That was an evil thing to do!”
Tommy said, “But Brother Pastor,
I thought that everybody knew.”

“I asked Jesus for this wagon,”
As he patted it with pride,
“And I told him if I got it
That I would let him have first ride!”

Baby Jesus is about jumping to conclusions. Before deciding that someone has done something wrong, listen to his or her side of the story. No matter how impossible it may seem, they may have a plausible explanation. Tommy was very sure that Jesus would approve of what he was doing. After all, Tommy had made a promise.
